Storage & Impound Releases

A vehicle can typically be released to a registered owner or a relative with the same last name. In addition to paying fees, you will normally need the following to remove your vehicle:

Requirements

  • Proof of insurance in your name

  • Current registration, title, or lease agreement

  • License Plate Number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

  • IDs with your picture, such as a driver’s license or State ID Card

  • A licensed driver is required to drive the vehicle from the lot. Otherwise, arrange to have the car towed from the lot

If Law Enforcement has impounded your vehicle, the following is a general guideline of the necessary paperwork you will need to claim your vehicle:

  • a. Valid driver’s license or Government-issued photo ID card
  • b. Current Registration
  • c. urrent Insurance
  • d. Proof of ownership - vehicle title or, in the event of a recent title transfer (and you have yet to receive the new title in your name)- paperwork stamped by the DMV showing the transfer has been applied for. Vehicles may only be released to the registered owner (or designated representative with a notarized note from the registered owner.)
  • e. If a police agency has placed a HOLD on your vehicle, you must obtain a release from that agency before we can release the car. Proof of insurance, if required, may be faxed to the Impound Office.
  • f. Cash payment is the ONLY accepted form of payment for impounded vehicles

Rental Vehicles

Impounded rental vehicles registered to and owned by a rental company will only be released to an authorized agent.
